WEEK 8

It's finally week 8! Labour day falls on week 8 - No work for us!! We wanted to go out on that day... However, it's a public holiday in China too. We were warned by our colleagues that it's better for us to stay in the hotel because everywhere will be very crowded. We went to yan chang lu ( a mini town near our hotel ) for dinner & dessert.

The day before labour day, we went to a restaurant(Molokai) in french concession for cantonese cuisine! I found this restaurant on a website ( time out ) and the ratings for this restaurant were not bad! It was quite affordable for the quality of their dishes.
Afterwards, we went to captain bar to chill. Since it was a public holiday the next day, we didn't manage to get a seat on the rooftop. We found a seat inside the bar and we were not very pleased with it because it was very stuffy and we didn't manage to have a good view of the bund. Thankfully, the waitress was nice and she alerted us when there is an empty seat on the rooftop. Once we were on the rooftop, we get to have an amazing view of the lengendary The Bund. We ordered some drinks and chit chatted about our life, work and school...

On Friday, we went to eat 鸡公煲  with our colleagues. Basically, we were supposed to eat the chicken meat in a clay pot first. After that, the boss will add some soup into the clay pot and we can add other food we want into the clay pot. So basically, we are eating hotpot as well!

Sat - We woke up quite late on Saturday as we wanted to rest more. Afterwards, we went to cha can teng for xia wu cha. We walked around the area and we went to The Bund to enjoy the view again.

Sun -
We went to Jian Guo 328 on Sunday. "The homey Shanghai dishes are cooked with filtered water, quality oil and never any MSG. A few details distinguish this miniature dining room with a little lofted second floor from the average casual eatery, such as the framed glass window front and comfortable lighting instead of fluorescent tubes.
" This was written on the time out website. True enough, the food were incredible as well as the furnishing of the shop. Afterwards, we went to 田子方 for chocolate cake. Oh, who can resist chocolate cake for dessert?

WEEK 7 IN SHANGHAI

It’s finally the seventh week in Shanghai! How time flies~ I remember I used to hope for time to pass faster during the first week in Shanghai because I couldn’t get used to the weather, food, working life and everything. However, the next thing we know, it’s the seventh week! Working was quite tough in the beginning because I wasn’t able to express myself for all the IT technical terms in mandarin fluently. There was a lot of information about the systems Fedex is offering to its customers. Hence, I wasn’t able to absorb this information in a short time. However, as long as we preserve, everything will get better :)

We originally planned to go a park on Saturday! We heard from our colleague that the park is famous for it’s scenery and we can go there for relaxation after a hectic week of work. However, to our dismay, it was raining on Saturday. Hence, we had to stay in the hotel. We went to meet our colleagues around 4pm at supermarket for grocery shopping! We went over to her place and prepare our dinner. It has been awhile since we had home cooked meal after coming to Shanghai. In addition, the dishes were really yummy so I had 1 bowl of rice and 1 and a half bowl of noodle :D

It was raining on Sunday too :( We had Pizza Hut for dinner again because the standard of the pizza was really good as compared to Singapore. While we were waiting for the train to go home, we happened to see fireworks!! It seems like it's actually a common thing in China for someone to put fireworks... We were so excited when we see the fireworks, however, the locals over here treated it like it's nothing much.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words... Here are some of the pictures taken over the week!

8-March-2014 12:55am.....It's time for Shanghai!! After waving goodbye to our families, we finally boarded the plane and off we go!! The plane's lift off flagged the start of our three-month intern ship journey haha so let's get this journey started....

The first week at Shanghai was pretty amazing. We explored several places such as the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Yu Yuan Garden where we see both the modern and the not-so-modern architect in Shanghai.

During our second week at Shanghai, we went to places like the French Concession and the Cha's restaurant. We tried several delicious food over there including some of the famous dishes at Cha's restaurant. Big portions, tasty food, cheap prices!!!

Week three is a lot more fun compared to the first two weeks. We went to a lot of Shanghai's well known locations to explore as well. One of which was Shanghai's famous restaurant - Jessie's restaurant. We also went to 上海外滩, also known as "The Bund", to take a stroll. Although it's like out third time there so far but we still enjoyed the scenery and air.
